Why Whey?

Most of you longtime bodybuilders know about whey protein, this is for the beginner.  Whey protein is a supplement that builds and repairs muscle.  Protein is the basically the building blocks of muscle and muscle needs protein to basically to survive and thrive.

Here’s how it works:  When you’re done lifting you notice that you feel a little sore, in that case, you say it was a good workout.  The next day, though, when you get out of bed your muscles are usually screaming in pain.  What happened was that when you were lifting, your muscle fibers ripped apart from the stress.  The muscle eventually heals itself in two to three days by fixing and/or replacing the torn muscle fibers with new muscle.  By taking whey protein, it speeds up the recovery process of all that torn muscle, enabling you to heal faster and increase the weight in a quicker time frame.

Unlike  most workout supplements, whey protein is gauranteed to work with little or no side effects if taken properly.  The rule of thumb is one gram of protein to one pound of body weight – If you weigh 160 lbs. you need 160 grams of protein.  That doesn’t mean that you should drink eight protein shakes a day, the daily recommendation is somewhere between two and four.  The rest of your protein intake should come from your daily diet.

The price of whey protein varies.  You could go to GNC and pay $60 for a tub of it, which I don’t recommend, or you could go to Wal – Mart and pick some up for about $15.  Look around the Internet too.  Suppliers sell 10 lb. bags that last about three months for about the same price that GNC has you paying for a month’s supply.  Remember: You wanna look good, but not at the expense of your wallet.  So if you wanna bulk up in quicker time, definitely purchase some whey protein!
