Further Response to “The Skinny…”
Hey Ladies…
Would you rather look like this:

Or like this:

But, let’s hope you don’t wanna look like this:

Here at The Public Gym, we don’t just make fun of obese people. We make fun of very skinny people too…we don’t discriminate on eating disorders! There may be an “obesity epidemic” (everyone knows we love that term here at The Public Gym…) running through America, but there is also another disease festering itself in the underbelly of this nation. It’s like the big pink elephant in the room, everybody sees it, but nobody wants to acknowledge it: Anorexia.
Anorexia is an eating disorder, especially in girls (approximately 95%), where people starve themselves because they think they’re fat. Weight loss is usually 15% below the person’s normal body weight. The disorder is largely psychological in the fact that since someone thinks they’re fat, they just don’t eat. They continue to do this over a long period of time, all the while losing more and more weight. The problem is, when someone with this eating disorder looks at themselves in the mirror, even if they weigh all of 95 lbs. in wet clothing, they still think they’re fat.
Anorexics’ diet mainly consists of water, diet pills and diet soda. The “Anorexic food pyramid” shows their diet in more detail:

The reason why coffee and smokes are up there is because these are stimulants. Stimulants raise the body’s metabolic rate, thus burning more calories and losing more weight.
Needless to say, this is not healthy at all, and people do die from Anorexia. Plenty of therapists are working with anorexics to recover and maintain a healthy lifestyle, but this eating disorder continues to escalate in people at an alarming rate. Anorexics are even setting up pro – anorexic websites to suck young girls into their warped little reality.
The thing is, if people want that killer body, guys or girls, the key is to eat. Having a lean, toned, muscular body is about 70% diet, only 30% actual exercise. There’s no way that you can get all of your nutrients from coffee and diet soda. If you have a balanced diet of proteins, carbs, and fat (very little), and even a little bit of exercise, and you’ll achieve something that looks a lot better than a twig and you won’t look like a strong fart could knock you over. You’ll look very healthy, very attractive and you won’t feel starved!
The Public Gym also has another idea on how to battle anorexia…Like I said, the eating disorder is mostly psychological. Let’s start with how men would look at anorexic girls. Men like curves, not a lot of curves, but they like healthy – looking women. Contrary to popular belief, men do not like stick figures. They feel like they could crack them in half, they’d have to be very careful with an anorexic. So, there is no way that a man would think that an anorexic is attractive or even worth their time, plus, no man wants to be seen walking around with someone that looks like a cancer patient…that would be a big blow to their ego! They think anorexics are downright ugly, gross and disgusting. How would this go over psychologically with an anorexic girl? Probably not too well! So, men, the next time you see a girl that’s anorexic, don’t tell them they’re fat (obviously…), tell them they’re ugly! No girl wants to hear they’re ugly. Tell them you would rather sleep with a slobbering bulldog than her. Then tell her to go eat a cheeseburger to put some meat on them bones! Or better yet, take her out on a date: buy her $10 worth of cheeseburgers from the dollar menu from Mickey D’s and sign her up at the local gym. Get her a personal trainer and a nutritionist. Don’t forget to give her your phone number and tell her that when she transforms herself from a ratty chew toy to a swimsuit model to give you a call.

This is pathetic – I have battled anorexia, and nearly died from it. Telling an Anorexic they are ugly would not help in the slightest. And not every anorexic thinks they’re fat – it is a fear of becoming so. Really check out your facts before you plaster crap over the internet. People die?! one in 10 people with anorexia die! This isn’t an illness to be mocked. You are truely pathetic
Not one to judge, but Laura, after you blasted this guy for not getting his facts right, wouldn’t 10 out of 10 people die, whether they had anorexia or not? I think you also missed the point in that this site seems to suggest we all should strive to be HEALTHY, not just skinny. Yes, anorexia is not to be laughed at, but you should be spreading the word of the best ways to cure/fight it. Why dont you educate instead of just blasting people?
Laura,
I don’t think the Public Gym is advocating anorexia.. in fact it really appears that it’s telling women that it’s a problem… a big problem…
You got mad at someone on your side.
Laura,
You are right in the fact that The Public Gym DOES NOT advocate anorexia. I also commend you on continuing the fight to battle your bout with anorexia. However, this is a site for parody, not rigid facts and figures. It’s true that we have a couple facts on here, but that’s just to get the point across. If you want those facts and figures, go somewhere else. Here at The Public Gym, we advocate self – deprecating humor, if you can’t laugh at yourself, this site definitely isn’t for you.
I know many people that are addicted to many things, be it food, no food, alcohol, drugs, exercise, or even too much Playstation. The only thing is that they can look at themselves with a sense of humor instead of damaging themselves further for having some kind of disease. So stop wearing your disease like a badge on your arm and a bumper sticker on the back of your car. Instead of bashing this site, why don’t you write some real facts and figures in for us so we can post them and maybe help somebody out. You are not special just because you have this disease and nobody else is special because they have their given issues. All you can do is help people that have the same disease as yours and hope for the best for them. So, instead of working against The Public Gym, work with it and give us some stuff that will help.
Laura,
“And not every anorexic thinks they’re fat – it is a fear of becoming so.”
Speaking as someone who has busted their ass to lose almost 30 lbs over the past six months, I too have a fear of being fat. However, this fear does not lead me to never eat anything, or to force myself to throw up following a meal.
What have I done? Slightly changed my diet, drink crap loads of water, and work my rear-end off when I exercise by running four days a week. All I need to do for motivation is look at the pictures of myself from a year ago and wonder what the hell was I thinking, and why didn’t I start sooner?
Why am I doing this? A few reasons, actually.
1) My doctor told me that if I didn’t do something about my weight, I was at a high risk for developing diabetes (which my family has a history of).
2) I just didn’t like the way I looked anymore, and decided it was time to do something about it.
3) I enjoy hot women. At 243 lbs, I felt I had less of a chance to enjoy those hot women, so a change was necessary. Let me tell you, women that look like the first picture in this post are NOT what I would consider “hot women.” The second picture…that’s another story entirely. But, I digress…
I understand anorexia is a disease, but as has been said – nobody here is advocating it. Trying to help, with a little bit of humor mixed in. Deal with it, or move along…
I am a male anorexia and i love it!!!!!111111
i think tht the first picture is discusting and tht she shouldnt be model because she is sending out the wrong image!!!!!
i am so digging the anorexic modle she is my idel.
wow, looks like a lot of people are against Laura.
I think she is in one of stages of anorexia. When anorexic people really start starving themselfs they become very moody. &it’s annoying too. Either that or she’s on her period when she wrote that
My GAWD! (
I have Anorexia and I must admit I am into “thinspiration”. When I first saw the anorexic model I thought “wow!!! She’s so pretty”. But I dont want anyone else to get anorexia, for all the ups of thiness there are worse downs.
I want to be a doctor so it doesnt matter im anorexic, do you realise how many anorexic doctors there are? Heaps.
I seiriously don’t like em because they are too skiny.
And it is realy skin and bone.
Nice try guys. Your efforts are noticed but as a person who has been struggling with bulimia and anorexia this site does nothing but make me madder at our fucked up society. how dare you say that “Here at The Public Gym, we don’t just make fun of obese people. We make fun of very skinny people too…”
A PERSON WITH A DISORDER WILL NEVER HEAL WHEN THERE ARE ASSHOLES MAKING WEBSITES LIKE THIS. you dont offer ANY POSITIVE OR SUPPROTIVE OR UNDERSTANDING OR CARING COMMENTS AT ALL. that is the only thing that a person with an eating disroder needs. a strong circle of loving and caring frineds and family. a positive supporting environment. NOT SOME JERK WHO THINKS HE SHOULD PUT HIS TWO SENSE IN AND ‘STIR THE EMOTIONAL POT’ GO FUCK YOURSELF.
I PRAY YOUR WEBSITE GETS EDDITED.
This article is fucked up.
I’ve never been so disgusted in my entire life.
You make me sick.
“Outfield” says he knows anorexia is a disease.. yet he still acts as if someone with anorexia can “just stop” what they’re doing to themself and start eating properly. Even if one was to recover from anorexia, they will struggle with it for the rest of their lives, every day, every meal they eat will be a test of their strength to eat.
Anorexia is not something you can just stop doing. It is absolutely completely a mind disorder. It may not have started that way. It could have been starting out on a diet and then just get more obsessed and start cutting out food little by little to see more results and eventually eating barely anything or going on fasts.
To tell an anorexic girl they are ugly is one of the worst things to tell them. People suffering from an eating disorder usually have extremely low self esteem, and obviously that’s not gonna make them “snap out of it”!
If you tell them they are ugly they most likely will think “well I’ll be beautiful when I’m skinnier! I must be skinnier!” – they think they are ugly because they aren’t small enough.
I don’t understand how people can write articles like this when they have no idea of what anorexia, or any eating disorder or psychological problem is!
It’s like telling someone suffering from depression to just smile and think about good things and all the sadness will go away…
I totally agree with M. listen to this person!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i need to put on weight but i dont want to get fat what do i do
were love FAT people not skiny people
if you tell an anorexic that she’s ugly she will only starve herself more. Your advice is misinformed, though does have good intentions.
Pro-anorexic sites aren’t what’s causing eating disorders, fucked up websites like these are. Making fun of obese people? I mean come on! How is this website aimed at helping people at all? You’re just a bunch of judgemental assholes who can’t get off their high horse long enough to look around and see what’s really going on. Anorexia is not going to be cured by making fun of fat people and have guys yell at them that they’re ugly. You’re disgusting.
Whilst i find this article neither offensive nor funny, i would like to point out that a man calling an anorexic person ugly is not going to cause them to change their eating habits, since it is a serious mental disorder and not a desperate plea for male attention.
you deliberatly chose the worst picture of an annorexic model and a really good picture of a non annorexic to be biased to ur view
I eat all the food i want. I just work out regularly. Its not that tough to figure out. Focus on what truely matters. Like family, religion, friends, school, work. Dont worry about looks. Who cares! In the end, no one does. Just eat healthy food and work out a couple times a week..
I think this is the funniest thing ive ever seen. i too have struggled with bulimia…but this site is friggin hilarious. alot of it is…so completely true. haha
Dear Laura,
Listen I have been battling anorexia for a couple of months now and it is hard. I was fine for two months then well the 3rd my body started doing weird things. I felt like I wanted to throw up but it was only in the morning. Every now and then I got dizzy or sometimes my eyesight would play tricks on me. I mean I only did it to get down to the weight I wanted to be but after I got to that size I thought I was fat so I kept it up. I still am keeping it up cause when I look in the mirror all I see is fat. Sometimes I will eat then I will stop again. I am scared to get help and well my parents still don’t know anything. They think I only went on a diet. I refuse to tell them. So don’t tell me that not every anorexic thinks they are not fat or ugly that is BS. If they don’t then they are not a true anorexic so get your facts straight or shutup.
Hey, most girls I know who fight anorexia, they don’t really care about getting fat. For them, it’s about control, but if you hurt their feelings they feel more out of control and become more and more obsessed. Websites like this shouldn’t be up, because nobody deserves to be made fun of.
i find this article disturbing in its portrayal of anorexia. anorexia is a serious mental disease that can not just be turned on or off. i understand that this is a humor site, and i understand that your are just trying to make a joke, but what i am worried about is that some naive person will find this site and take its information and tips as actual advice. Telling an anorexic they are ugly could cause them to become suicidal and restrict food even more! i hope you take this into consideration next time you are planning to write an article like this.
thank you for reading,
alice
how about you dont make fun of anyone??
“here we dont just make fun of obese people, we make fun of very skinny people to…”
wtf is that. you suck. these are physical and mental problems that no one has a right to make fun of especially if they dont know how horrible anorexia feels. god fucking damnit what kind of society do we live in….just stfu.
just because we shouldnt strive to be emaciated or obese YOU dont know the mental parts behind it in true anorexics. And you also dont know how much it hurts to read this. u really think we all do this just to be skinny? whell then you have no right to be shit talking anyone on the internet with this problem.
This is THE most insensitive and ignorant portrayal of eating disorders I have seen. Whomever wrote this article could use a healthy dose of empathy and a good kick in the ass. Eating disorders are psychological disorders and can come from a wide variety of causes, including genetics. So think about how not every anorexic desires that lifestyle before telling one they are ugly and to eat a hamburger. Insensitive prick.
